Open Neighborhoods was founded in 2008 with a mission to connect and inform neighborhoods with local social networking, open Internet access and clean energy programs.
Our organization came together as a neighborhood initiative in Mar Vista, California and has grown into a community-based neighborhood advocacy group to promote strong local economies in Los Angeles area neighborhoods. Current programs include connecting communities of neighborhood bloggers and businesses, promoting open Internet access with free broadband wireless for entire communities, and spear-heading community solar programs and group-purchasing of solar power:
- Community Solar – Our three-month group purchasing program in 2009 resulted in over 30 solar installations and significant savings for participants. Our 2010 program resulted in 200 participants and we are now proceeding with the largest, most affordable group solar installation in LA history.
