Open Neighborhoods and the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign in Los Angeles are presenting two Los Angeles solar tours as part of the American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Tour. Attendees can RSVP by contacting Spike Lewis at firstname.lastname@example.org or (310) 490-1477.
The Westside Solar Tour will take place on October 1st, 2011 from 10am to 5pm, visiting homes and businesses in Venice and Mar Vista including the Sidewalk Cafe, The Brig, The Electric Lodge, and Oasis Healing Center.
The Silver Lake Solar Tour will take place on October 2nd, 2011 from 1pm to 4pm starting at the solar-powered community garden at Micheltorena Elementary school.
The tours will combine guided and self-guided tours of solar installations on residences and businesses and will demonstrate how homeowners can use energy efficiency, solar energy and other sustainable practices to reduce utility bills. The events are part of a nationwide series of grassroots events hosted by the American Solar Energy Society, which expects 165,000 attendees to view 5,500 buildings in 3,200 communities across the country.
The event will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about solar power on an intimate level from neighbors who have already embraced solar energy. Topics explored with the owners will cover a range of issues, including why choose solar, researching solar power, choosing an installer, costs and financial incentives, the installation process, system design, effect on monthly electric bill, maintenance, etc.
