ThinkProgress: Community Solar Reaches “Grid Parity” in Los Angeles

ThinkProgress has run the numbers on Open Neighborhoods Community Solar and determined that discounted group purchasing has driven the cost of solar power below that of utility-provided power in Los Angeles. Available rebates and tax incentives further increase solar savings.

The article notes that participating homeowners on time-of-use pricing plans have access to cheaper electricity from rooftop solar panels than from their utility. Solar rebates and tax credit incentives push the cost down and savings up even further.

Participating homeowners who remain on tiered pricing plans are expected to have cheaper electricity from their rooftop panels than average grid electricity by 2015. Read more.
